The Department of Immunology and Rheumatology of the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University was established in November 1998.  It is one of the earliest established departments of immune rheumatology in Hebei Province. After years of unremitting efforts, the department gradually developed and grew. Through continuous learning of advanced knowledge at home and abroad, the department staff carried out a number of new technologies and new therapies, and carried out individualized treatment for different patients, making the diagnosis and treatment level of rheumatism into the advanced ranks at home and abroad. In 1998, an independent laboratory of immunology and rheumatology was established in the Province. Through continuous organization of laboratory staff from time to time to Beijing Union Medical College Hospital, the European Union Medical Diagnostic Independent Laboratory for special training, the experimental results are stable and reliable.

Since 2006, it has passed the EQA laboratory certification of the Ministry of Health for 7 consecutive years and has become the main technical support for relevant medical and clinical departments in Hebei province and surrounding areas. In 2007, it established the bio-targeted treatment room, which is one of the first to develop biologic agents to treat a variety of refractory rheumatic diseases in the province. In 2011, it was successfully declared as "osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment technical cooperation base of ministry of health". In 2014, together with the central laboratory of our hospital, the national clinical trial institution immunology professional base was established. In 2014, it introduced the domestic advanced high-frequency musculoskeletal ultrasonic diagnostic instrument and took the lead in carrying out musculoskeletal ultrasonic examination in the province. In 2017, it was rated as a key development discipline in Hebei province. It undertakes the training of rheumatic professionals, academic research, diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical diseases in our province and enjoys a high reputation in north China. Rheumatology has become an excellent department with strong technical force, advanced medical equipment, meticulous service, and patients' trust.

At present, the Department of Immunology and Rheumatology has outpatient department (4 consultation rooms), ward (85 beds), and articular ultrasound room. The annual number of patients is about 40000, and the annual inpatient number is more than 1800. The department has a team of skilled, noble medical ethics and vigorous medical staff. There are 43 technical personnel, including 5 chief physicians and professors, 3 associate chief physicians, 9 attending physicians, 5 resident physicians, 1 associate chief nurse, 10 chief nurses and 11 nurses. Among them, there are 5 people with Doctor's degree, 17 people with master’s degree, 5 people with master’s tutor, and more than 70 people with master’s degree. It undertakes the training of rheumatic professionals, academic research, diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical diseases in our province and enjoys a high reputation in north China. The department of immunology and rheumatology has become an excellent department with strong technical force, advanced medical equipment and reliable patients, and has become the authoritative institution for the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and severe rheumatoid diseases in Hebei province.

The department of immunology and rheumatology has conducted and researched more than 20 scientific research subjects at various levels. Currently,  we conducted one national "11th five-year plan" science and technology support plan transverse subject and  one"863" collaborative project, 1 item of national natural science foundation project, 2  projects of Hebei provincial natural science foundation , 5 subjects  of Hebei province department, eight in Hebei province health department issues, and many other research collaboration issues. It has accumulated more than 180 works, mainly published in "ClinExp Med", "Chinese journal of rheumatology," Chinese journal of immunology, "Chinese journal of pathophysiology, SCI and national core journals, the content involved in systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren syndrome, and other fields, editor or participated in over 10 books. It has won two third prizes of Hebei provincial science and technology progress award, two first prizes and three second prizes of Hebei provincial department of health medical science and technology award.
