The department of Chinese-Western Cooperative Medicine of the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University was established in 2006. The department has a sound development plan and strictly implements relevant hospital systems in medical and health services.

The department ofChinese-Western Cooperative Medicine adopts conventional western medicine diagnosis and treatment technology to treats diseases by combining traditional Chinese medicine. For the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, chronic liver disease, acute or chronic kidney disease, immune systemic disease, refractory fever, stubborn sex aphtha, lung cancer, acute pancreatitis, cancer, and preserving system diseases and so on. It has the rich clinical experience, on the basis of ensuring medical quality and safety, and greatly reduce the burden of patients, praised by the great majority of patients.

Currently, the department of Chinese-Western Cooperative Medicine has 3 physicians, including 1 chief physician, 1 attending physician and 1 doctor with Master’s degree.

Relying on the comprehensive platform of the hospital, with the strong support of the departments of internal medicine, immunology, surgery, endocrinology, radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine and ultrasound, our department has made further progress in medical level, diagnosis and treatment.

1. The far-sighted academic leaderand the perfect and harmonious academic team

Under the leadership of the academic leader director Fengxue Li, we have constantly improved and enriched the clinical and scientific research contents of three advantageous specialties, namely gastrointestinal disease, nephropathy, cardio-cerebrovascular disease and cancer. On this basis, we have successively established the return visit system for gastrointestinal disease, nephropathy, viral encephalitis and intractable skin disease. In addition, on the basis of consultation with other departments on difficult diseases, we have strengthened the follow-up treatment for patients with nephropathy, systemic lupus erythematosus, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer and other diseases. These methods and systems were respectively completed by three discipline backbone doctors and we have formed a good and perfect discipline echelon of the three generations. In the open and harmonious atmosphere of the department of Chinese-Western Cooperative Medicine, the sharing of resources and technology has been realized, and the overall medical level of the department has been continuously promoted.

Attach importance to clinical work and medical quality

The Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University is the diagnosis and treatment center of difficult diseases in Hebei province. Therefore, the department of Chinese-Western Cooperative Medicine pays special attention to the daily clinical work and medical service quality. Our department has cured many diseases by pure Chinese medicine methods, including chronic bronchitis, asthma, acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, viral encephalitis, chronic gastritis, liver abscess, cheilitis, fungal glossitis, thrombocytopenia purpura, intractable ulcer, insomnia, forgetfulness and dozens of other diseases. In addition, we have greatly reduced the pain and burden of many cases of difficult patients: including Kennedy's disease, cysticercosis, Behcet's disease, and all kinds of tumors. In so-called difficult diseases, the patients diagnosed and treated by the department of Chinese-Western Cooperative Medicine are often more difficult, and most of them come to see a doctor after a long period of treatment in other hospitals.

Professor Li  explained the causes, outcomes and prognosis of the disease in a patient manner, so that the majority of patients would benefit more from the treatment of the disease. The workload of our outpatient department is very large, reaching more than 13,000 person-times in 2012, with a growing trend year by year. Our department also attaches great importance to medical quality and medical safety. There have never been any medical errors or disputes in our department. And in the satisfaction evaluation organized by the hospital, we have achieved good results, so that patients have a sense of security. In order to facilitate the treatment and follow-up of patients in remote areas, our department insists on giving priority to these patients, showing care in detail.

We have won the first prize of excellent thesis and one excellent thesis, the third prize of provincial excellent new product, three provincial science and technology progress awards and two departmental science and technology progress awards. We have two university-level scientific and technological achievements awards of Hebei Medical University, two departmental level projects, one national patent and the title of "Top Ten Inventors of Hebei Province", as well as participated in the compilation of 6 monographs.
