Department Introduction

The Department of Reproductive Medicine was founded in 1996. In April 1998, it was approved by the Hebei Provincial Health Planning Commission (formerly the Hebei Provincial Health Department) to establish the “Hebei Provincial Reproductive Medicine Center”. The center is located in the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University (affiliated to the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University). In October 2004, the Reproductive Center was separated from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and became an independent department as the Department of Reproductive Medicine. It is the chairman institution of the Hebei Reproductive Medicine Committee of the Chinese Medical Association,is the chairman designate institution of Hebei provincial committee of reproductive medicine, Chinese medical doctors association, and is the leader institution of Hebei province assisted reproductive technology expert group. In May 2017, it was rated as the key discipline of Hebei Province by the Provincial Health and Planning Commission. There are 47 employees, including 4 chief physicians and professors, 1 chief inspector, 1 deputy chief physician and 1 associate professor, and 1 deputy director inspector. Among them, there are 4 doctorates, 22 masters and 6 master’s tutors.

As a professional institution for artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer in Hebei province, the in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) technology was officially implemented in February 1997, and clinical pregnancy was obtained in March. On May 22, 1998, the first IVF baby was born in the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University. In the same year, single sperm intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI) and freeze-thaw embryo technology were introduced. In 2001, the first intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) baby was born. In October 2002, frozen-thawed embryos babies were born. The Department of Reproductive Medicine has also carried out a number of assisted pregnancy techniques such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), intrauterine gamete transplantation, embryo freeze-thaw, blastocyst culture, immature egg culture and assisted hatching, egg freezing, micro-sperm freezing, early and middle pregnancy selective multiple pregnancy reduction.

In 2005, the Department of Reproductive Medicine has passed the inspection of the former Ministry of Health and became the center for the trial operation of assisted reproductive technology in Hebei Province. It was officially approved for operation in 2007. Since 1997, the Department of Reproductive Medicine carried out more than 30,000 IVF-ET treatment cycles, more than 15,000 cases of freeze-thawed embryo transfer cycles, and tens of thousands of intrauterine inseminations. The Center has established a set of scientific and advanced basic research and clinical treatment systems for assisted reproductive technology. The existing medical projects include: IVF-ET, IVC injection (ICSI), intrauterine gamete transplantation (GIUT), embryo cryopreservation and frozen embryo transfer (FET), artificial insemination (AIH), assisted hatching (AH), egg freezing, egg donation, fetal reduction surgery, pelvic cyst puncture, diagnosis and treatment of male infertility, epididymal testicular puncture, sperm cryopreservation, female endocrine disease, habitual abortion and immune infertility.
